Best Winter Bird Tip: Heated Bird Bath
The Number One Winter Bird Tip!
Attracting wild birds through changing seasons sometimes requires us to adapt birding accessories to those seasons. For instance, in the heat of summer, high fat suet melts easily and turns rancid quickly, so it’s not ideal for summer, although packed with calories and great for winter feeding! During freezing winter temperatures, the shallow water in bird baths will freeze over, rendering them useless.
Regardless of climate, a fresh water source is always the most effective way to attract more species of wild birds. Aside from birdhouses and bird feeders, water will always complete a bird-friendly habitat. In colder climates during winter months, a heated bird bath is without a doubt, the number way to experience more sightings of different species for the ultimate backyard birding experience!

Add Mosaic Bird Bath for a Fresh Water Source
Clean Feathers Fly Better!
Wild birds require a consistent fresh water source (year round) to properly preen feathers for optimal flight conditions. Some bird baths are actually too deep for birds to bathe and wade comfortably. The maximum depth of bath water should be no more than 3 inches. The mosaic bird bath above, is shallow and perfect for feathered friends to drink and bathe. If your bath has a deeper center, consider placing a large rock in it so birds can perch.
In warmer weather, water tends to stay cooler and fresher longer if the bath is placed in the shade. In freezing winter months, place baths in full sun if possible. Mosaic, ceramic, copper, and glass birdbaths also have the capacity to hold a birdbath heater during frigid weather, a life saver for many birds during tough winter months.

Bird Baths that Blend with Nature
Sometimes subtle is just better…at least in the realm of wild bird accessories and landscapes. A soothing, more natural approach may be preferred. Instead of vibrant ceramic, or shiny copper bird baths, you may opt for something that actually looks like it’s part of the environment.
This birdbath fits the bill to a T! The realistic natural tree bark finish makes it seem like the actual landscape it adorns. Durable molded fiberglass makes for simple maintenace too, an important factor sometimes overlooked when purchasing a birdbath. Complete with an ivy-leafy copper dripper, this bird bath will attract even more feathered friends with its gentle moving water.
